Will Wade (Dawson County Board of Education)
My question is two fold about the flexibility and funding. I've been on the school board for 10 years and all the Governors and Legislators during that time have said they are going to change the QBE funding and flexibility formula. Will you go on the record and say you will make that happen.
Fitz Johnson
That's the leadership I'm talking about. Look it's difficult. It's very difficult to figure out this QBE and make sure it impacts the right folks around our state. Look, everybody's not going to be happy. We know that. There's got to be a way so that we can look at QBE and understand it. Heck, the first time I looked at it, I couldn't figure it out.
Richard Woods
QBE is a numbers game. And this is a priority for me. It's crucial that we have adequate funding across the board and flexibility across the board. When I look at QBE, we need to simplify the educational bureaucracy to make it easier to move the funds around where we need it. For example, a few years back a special ed teacher, her department chair came to her and said he had ten thousand dollars you have to spend. She said she didn't need it. He said I don't care, spend it anyway. That's a waste of funds.
